Veteran politician and former federal minister Jahangir Tareen is reportedly considering joining the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) after his own political party, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), struggled to gain public support.

This speculation surfaced following Tareen’s recent meeting with PPP Punjab President Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood, as he explores possible alignments with major political parties.

Although no official statement has been made, reports suggest Tareen may soon meet PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari to discuss future plans.

Tareen, once a key ally of Imran Khan, has largely remained out of active politics since losing in the 2024 general elections from Multan and Lodhran. Sources indicated that his recent meeting with Makhdoom Mahmood was related to business, with no confirmed political commitments.

Tareen began his political career during Pervez Musharraf’s tenure, initially with PML-Q, before joining PTI in 2012 and rising to a prominent position. Despite being disqualified by courts before the 2018 elections, he played a vital role in helping PTI form a majority by rallying independent candidates.
