Imran Khan, leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has spent 21 months in jail and is now reportedly exploring various options to secure his release.
Amid growing internal divisions, PTI is said to be quietly pursuing backchannel communication with both the government and the establishment, despite maintaining a confrontational public stance. No official talks have been initiated, and insiders suggest the secrecy is intended to prevent backlash from supporters and critics alike.

While Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, denied reports claiming he responded positively to a dialogue offer, conflicting accounts from within PTI have fueled speculation. Tensions deepened following a recent meeting between Khan, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, and legal aides at Adiala Jail, during which Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, requested a private conversation with Khan and Gohar.
Though details remain undisclosed, some senior PTI members claim Gohar later conveyed Khan’s willingness to consider backdoor talks and possibly meet a representative of the establishment. This has led to internal confusion, prompting party leaders to seek further clarification from Khan.
Meanwhile, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram denied any negotiations were taking place, stating, “There are currently no talks—neither official nor unofficial—with the government or the establishment.”
