PM Shehbaz Sharif Meets Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, Vows to Deepen Strategic Cooperation

Tehran – Sept 25, 2025:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in Tehran on Monday, marking a significant moment in Pakistan-Iran relations. The high-level meeting focused on key bilateral, regional, and Muslim world issues, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to peace, unity, and strategic cooperation.

The meeting was held as part of PM Sharif’s official visit to Iran, where he was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.

Sharif Praises Supreme Leader’s Role in the Muslim World

During the meeting, PM Sharif praised Ayatollah Khamenei as a deeply respected and influential figure in the Islamic world.

“The Muslim world looks to you for guidance and moral leadership,” the prime minister stated, acknowledging the Supreme Leader’s spiritual and political stature.

Briefing on Pakistan-India Tensions

Prime Minister Sharif also briefed Ayatollah Khamenei on ongoing tensions between Pakistan and India, particularly focusing on New Delhi’s hegemonic policies and aggressive regional stance. He thanked Iran for its principled support during these challenging times and its consistent opposition to Indian aggression.

“Pakistan has always desired peace and stability in the region. We believe regional harmony is key to economic development and shared prosperity,” he emphasized.

Strategic Cooperation & Iran’s Nuclear Diplomacy

Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing strategic ties with Iran, including cooperation in trade, energy, and regional diplomacy. He also commended the Iranian leadership’s diplomacy in handling nuclear negotiations with the United States, expressing hope for a peaceful and constructive resolution that would benefit regional stability.

Ayatollah Khamenei Lauds Pakistan’s Peace Efforts

Ayatollah Khamenei praised PM Sharif’s vision for peace and regional cooperation, recognizing his role in strengthening bilateral relations. He expressed hope for Pakistan’s continued growth and stability and reaffirmed Iran’s support for the Palestinian cause and efforts to end the Zionist occupation of Gaza.

“Pakistan holds an important place in the Islamic world,” said the Supreme Leader. “Together, our nations must stand united for justice, particularly in support of Palestine.”

Iqbal’s Legacy and Invitation to Pakistan

Sharif also thanked the Supreme Leader for his long-standing admiration of Allama Iqbal, the renowned poet and philosopher. He described Ayatollah Khamenei’s engagement with Iqbal’s work as a symbolic connection between the people of Pakistan and Iran.

In a warm gesture, the Prime Minister formally invited Ayatollah Khamenei to visit Pakistan, extending an invitation for deeper engagement between the two countries.
