In a bid to calm mounting tensions between Pakistan and India, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi spoke with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday, urging both nations to exercise restraint and prevent further escalation. The discussion focused on the deteriorating regional security landscape following recent confrontations between the two neighbours.
Iranian state media reported that Araqchi emphasised the need for de-escalation and reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to fostering regional stability. His call came after a diplomatic visit to New Delhi, where he held high-level meetings with Indian leadership, including President Droupadi Murmu, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

During those discussions, Araqchi conveyed Iran’s hope that constructive dialogue would take precedence and that both countries would work to reduce tensions. In a statement shared by Iran’s Foreign Ministry on X, Araqchi stressed the urgency of promoting diplomacy and minimising conflict under the current sensitive circumstances.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office confirmed the telephonic conversation, stating that Ishaq Dar briefed his Iranian counterpart on Islamabad’s stance. Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace, making clear that the country had no intention of escalating the situation further.
