Fresh reports suggest Apple may be preparing one of its boldest moves yet — removing the physical SIM slot in more countries as it expands its eSIM strategy.
iPhone 17 Hype
The iPhone 17 lineup is expected to headline Apple’s September event. A new model, the iPhone 17 Air, is rumored to be the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever, replacing the Plus version. Leaked renders show all four models with a redesigned visor-like glass panel.
The standard iPhone 17 may finally get a ProMotion 120Hz display powered by the new A19 chip. The Pro models could feature a 48MP telephoto lens with 8X optical zoom, 8K video recording, dual capture, and a new 24MP front camera across the range.
Global eSIM Push
Apple has reportedly trained its European staff on eSIM ahead of launch, sparking speculation that the iPhone 17 Air may be the first global eSIM-only model. While Apple dropped the SIM tray in the US with the iPhone 14, this rollout could extend to 27 EU countries including Germany, France, Spain, and Italy.
Beyond iPhone
The Apple Watch Series 11 is expected with a new S11 chip, LTPO display, and possible blood pressure monitoring. The Watch Ultra 3 could add satellite connectivity, while the Watch SE 3 may offer a more affordable option.
On audio, Apple may unveil AirPods Pro 3 with heart rate tracking, stronger noise cancellation, and better battery life powered by an upgraded H2 chip.
A Major Shift
If true, Apple’s September 9 event could mark a turning point. By removing SIM trays, Apple aims to streamline design, boost security, and accelerate eSIM adoption. With the iPhone 17 Air at the forefront, this change could redefine how millions connect worldwide.
