Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi recently announced a significant decision during a meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in Islamabad. The decision entails a ban on the purchase of petrol motorcycles in the city, marking a strategic move towards reducing environmental pollution. Instead, the CDA will shift to purchasing electric bikes and operating eco-friendly electric buses to promote sustainable urban mobility.
The meeting underscored Islamabad’s transformation into a world-class city through various environmental initiatives and infrastructure projects. Progress updates were provided on key projects such as the refurbishment of the Federal Secretariat, enhancements to the Diplomatic Enclave, and the implementation of smart parking solutions.

In addition, Minister Naqvi highlighted upcoming infrastructure developments, including the commencement of construction on the Serena Chowk underpass and the F-9 Park Chowk flyover projects. These initiatives aim to enhance traffic management and improve connectivity within the capital.
Furthermore, the meeting addressed improvements in emergency services by transferring responsibilities from the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) to the CDA, ensuring international standard services for residents. Progress on long-stalled projects, like the Islamabad Model Jail and the Health Tower in the H-16 sector, was also discussed, with significant milestones achieved.
Minister Naqvi commended the CDA team for their exemplary tax collection record and emphasized the importance of expanding institutional assets beyond land sales. These initiatives reflect a comprehensive strategy to elevate Islamabad’s infrastructure, environment, and public services to international standards.
