Indus River Flood Hits Extreme Level; Villages And Crops Submerged

Flooding in the Indus River has reached an extremely high level, putting lives and farmlands at serious risk. At Chachran, the water flow was recorded at 837,000 cusecs, forcing thousands to evacuate.

Officials confirmed that 69 villages in Rahim Yar Khan are already underwater. In Liaquatpur, five villages have also been severely affected. Hundreds of acres of standing crops have been destroyed, adding to the crisis for farmers.

The rising water has begun reaching Guddu Barrage, where inflows climbed to 512,000 cusecs. Downstream, Sukkur Barrage reported 451,000 cusecs, raising fears of further devastation. At Ghotki, a breach in a protective embankment allowed water to enter nearby settlements, leaving many families displaced.

Floods have also hit more than 50 villages in Sujawal, while farmland in Naushahro Feroze is submerged. Cracks in protective structures near Naudero have triggered concerns about further damage.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), over 4.4 million people across Punjab have been affected by rising waters in the Indus, Ravi, and Chenab rivers. Officials warned that the situation could worsen in the coming 24 to 48 hours.

The Ministry of Water Resources reported that Tarbela Dam on the Indus River has reached full capacity at 1550 feet. Other dams in Pakistan and India, including Mangla, Bhakra, and Pong, are also nearing maximum levels, creating additional risk.

The destruction of farmland has deepened the crisis for rural communities. Experts fear that continued flooding may disrupt food supply chains and worsen inflation.

With the Indus River swelling further, authorities are urging residents in flood-prone areas to move to safer locations. Rescue teams remain on high alert as efforts continue to manage the disaster.
