A giant reticulated python discovered in Indonesia’s Maros region has officially earned recognition from Guinness World Records as the longest wild snake in the world.
Guinness World Records confirmed the achievement after thorough documentation and precise measurements, revealing that the female python measures an astonishing 23 feet 8 inches in length. This extraordinary size makes it the largest wild snake ever recorded, surpassing typical reticulated python lengths, which generally range from 9 feet 10 inches to 19 feet 2 inches.
The remarkable snake, now under careful supervision, is being looked after by conservation expert Budi Purwanto, licensed snake catcher Diaz Nugraha, and natural history photographer Rado Frentio. The team has implemented special measures to ensure the snake’s well-being and safety while it remains in their care.
Diaz Nugraha and Rado Frentio shared that their search for the enormous python began after receiving local reports and rumors about its unusual size. Following the successful capture and documentation, the team named the python “Ibu Baron,” meaning “The Baroness,” reflecting its commanding presence and remarkable stature.
Experts have highlighted that while reticulated pythons are known to be among the longest snakes in the world, the Maros python’s size is highly exceptional and rare. Its discovery has drawn attention from wildlife enthusiasts and researchers globally, sparking interest in the conservation and study of these giant reptiles.
