A Indian prisoner, Gaurav, son of Ram Anand, died by suicide in Karachi’s Malir Jail, officials reported Wednesday.
Imprisoned since February 2, 2022, he was found hanging in the washroom of the Indian prisoners’ barrack. A duty doctor confirmed his death at 2:20 am, and a magistrate ordered the body to be kept in a morgue pending legal procedures.

Superintendent Arshad Shah stated the incident occurred between March 24 and 25. The body was moved to Jinnah Hospital for an autopsy under the magistrate’s supervision, with discussions ongoing with the Indian consulate regarding his documentation.
Earlier this year, Pakistan and India exchanged prisoner lists as per the 2008 Consular Access Agreement, with Pakistan reporting 266 Indian prisoners and India listing 462 Pakistani detainees.
