In a press briefing on Wednesday morning, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, condemned India’s recent military actions, emphasizing the severity of the situation. Lt Gen Chaudhry described the Indian strike on the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project as a “regrettable act,” questioning if international law allows targeting a country’s water reserves. He also stressed that the attack, which occurred overnight between May 6 and 7, was unprovoked and included six different locations, with significant casualties and damage.
The attacks targeted mosques and civilian areas, resulting in the martyrdom of at least 26 civilians and injuries to 46 others. In Ahmedpur East and Muridke, multiple mosques were hit, killing several civilians, including a 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy, and injuring numerous others. Lt Gen Chaudhry linked these actions to the “Hindutva mindset” of the Modi government, condemning the attacks on places of worship.

Additionally, five civilians, including a child, were killed in the crossfire along the Line of Control (LoC), though no casualties or property damage were reported in Sialkot and Shakargarh. Lt Gen Chaudhry highlighted that these were the same locations recently visited by both local and foreign media, showing that there were no military targets present at the time.
In response to the aggression, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) swiftly shot down five Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale jets and one MiG-29, in areas such as Bathinda, Jammu, and Srinagar. The Pakistan Army also successfully targeted and destroyed key Indian military positions, including the Indian Infantry Brigade Headquarters and several enemy check posts.
Lt Gen Chaudhry assured that all Pakistani military and strategic assets remained safe and that Pakistan’s forces responded decisively to defend the country. He reiterated that while Pakistan does not seek war, it is fully prepared to defend itself and will continue to raise India’s provocative actions at international platforms.
The recent escalation has raised alarms over the already fragile peace along the Line of Control and further heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. International observers are closely monitoring the situation, urging both sides to engage diplomatically to prevent further conflict.
