India has imposed a curfew in border areas near Bangladesh amid political turmoil in Dhaka

India’s Border Security Forces (BSF) have imposed a curfew in the border areas of Bangladesh amid political turmoil in Dhaka, as Sheikh Hasina fled the capital and sought political asylum in New Delhi. According to Indian media reports, the BSF has recommended a curfew from 6 pm to 6 am in all areas of Meghalaya within 200 meters of the Bangladeshi border.

India faces a diplomatic setback as student protests in Bangladesh have toppled the government of Sheikh Hasina Wajid, a key ally of New Delhi. The border between India and Bangladesh spans 4,096 kilometers, with 915.35 kilometers of unfenced land. Five Indian states share this border with Bangladesh, and the BSF is on full alert, with highly tense conditions near the borders of Bangladesh and the eastern state of West Bengal.

The Indian government has mandated that no one should be allowed into the country without the required documentation and permission. The Petrapole Land Port at the border has blocked the flow of goods, resulting in hundreds of Indian trucks being held in Bangladesh. Additionally, a curfew has been enforced at night along the border between Bangladesh and India in the Indian state of Meghalaya. Since mid-July, railway services between Bangladesh and India have also been suspended indefinitely.
