India Gives Pakistani Diplomat 24 Hours to Leave Country

India Expels Another Pakistani Diplomat Amid Rising Tensions

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated again as India ordered Pakistani diplomat Muzammil, stationed at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, to leave the country within 24 hours. Muzammil was declared persona non grata over alleged activities considered incompatible with his diplomatic role. The diplomat worked in the visa department.

On Wednesday, the Pakistani chargé d’affaires was summoned to the Indian Foreign Office and handed a démarche demanding that Pakistani diplomats in India refrain from misusing their privileges.

This latest expulsion follows a pattern of diplomatic friction, with India having expelled 24 Pakistani officials since the Pahalgam incident. On May 13, another Pakistani visa assistant, Rahim, was also declared persona non grata and expelled.

Following the April 23 fatal attack in India-administered Kashmir, India ordered all Pakistani citizens in the country to leave within 48 hours, shut the Attari check post, and demanded a reduction of Pakistan High Commission staff from 55 to 30 by May 1.

The move also involved restricting or canceling visas for Pakistani diplomats and defense attachés.
