Most Cases Are Mild

Officials state that the majority of infections are mild, with patients recovering at home under standard monitoring. The Union Health Ministry and ICMR are closely observing the situation.

Two New Variants Detected

India has also identified two new COVID-19 variants—NB.1.8.1 in Tamil Nadu and LF.7 in Gujarat. Both are now classified by the WHO as “variants under monitoring.”

  • Dominant strain: JN.1 (53% of cases)
  • Other variants: BA.2 (26%) and various Omicron sublineages (20%)

No Evidence of Increased Severity

Experts confirm there’s no indication that the new variants are more severe or highly transmissible.

Meanwhile, several states—including Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Assam, Bihar, and Himachal Pradesh—have not reported any active cases, suggesting the outbreak is currently localized.

Authorities continue to advise the public to stay cautious, maintain hygiene, and monitor symptoms as efforts continue to manage the resurgence.
