OTT streaming service Vidly TV was also ordered to be banned for airing the web series that allegedly spread anti-Indian themes.
According to the order, the web series that was broadcast on the OTT Platform “was found to be detrimental to national security, sovereignty and integrity along with defence of India, security of the State, India’s friendly relations with foreign States, and public order in the country,” The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) noted.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][rs_space lg_device=”30″ md_device=”” sm_device=”” xs_device=””][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]The ministry used a number of aspects of the online series to support this denial. They stated: “The web series depicted an anti-India narrative on delicate historical events and topics that are significant to the country. For instance, the events surrounding Operation Blue Star, the destruction of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, the murder of Christian missionary Graham Staines, the explosions at Malegaon and Samjhauta Express, the interstate river water dispute over the Sutlej Yamuna Link canal, etc.”
Additionally, according to the centre, Operation Blue Star was depicted as a “massacre” of “innocent Sikhs.” The decision continued by asserting that the circumstances in Punjab during Operation Blue Star were purposefully depicted with strong sectarian connotations, suggesting that the riots and police intervention was driven by religious considerations. According to the ministry, “all Punjabi cops are shown without turbans, presenting a message that non-Sikh policeman labelled the Sikh people as Khalistani terrorists.”[/vc_column_text][rs_space lg_device=”30″ md_device=”” sm_device=”” xs_device=””][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]The series, according to the ministry, featured sequences that offered an erroneous portrayal of historical events. The 1984 anti-Sikh riots were depicted as a Hindu attack on Sikhs using religious symbols, the directive continued. Mohsin Abbas, Hajra Yamin, Nazarul Hassan, Nayyer Ejaz, and Adnan Jaffar are among the actors who appear in the web series. The series is created by acclaimed filmmaker Anjum Shahzad and iconic author Saji Gul.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
