Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan, were transferred to District Jail Jhelum from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Saturday after an anti-terrorism court denied police’s request for an extension of their physical remand and ordered their shift to judicial remand.
The sisters were arrested during a PTI protest at D-Chowk in Islamabad last week. Police sources confirmed that strict security measures have been implemented in Jhelum and that 500 prisoners are being transferred in small groups.

Efforts to reach Jail Superintendent Syed Hassan Mujtaba Shah for comments were unsuccessful.
Earlier, the ATC in Rawalpindi rejected the police’s request for further remand and issued notices regarding the sisters’ bail applications. Aleema and Uzma appeared before the court under tight security, where legal representatives presented their arguments.
Defense attorney Niazullah Khan Niazi contended that police had no basis for additional physical remand. Prosecutor Raja Naveed argued for more time to recover “critical evidence,” including mobile phones. Defense attorney Usman Riaz Gill pointed out that specific legal procedures for seeking remand for women were not followed correctly and requested the court to review footage from the protest to highlight the illegality of police actions.
Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra rejected the request, stating the USB should be examined by police investigators instead. The judge expressed dissatisfaction with the prosecution’s explanations, emphasizing that police should have documented every case development. The court issued notices regarding the suspects’ bail applications, with the next hearing set for October 19.
