Imran khan on TIME magazine

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has earned the cover of the US daily journal TIME, despite a widening schism with the current administration.

The May issue of the magazine will have an exclusive interview with the deposed prime minister in which he explains his goal to reclaim power.

TIME’s official Twitter account shared the first photograph of the magazine cover.

“Imran Khan has been expelled from government and faced assassination attempts, but he remains Pakistan’s most popular politician,” the tweet said.

Khan was deposed exactly one year before in a no-confidence vote in parliament. Since then, the PTI leader has called for immediate elections in response to the pressure he exerts on the existing administration through periodic rallies across the country attended by thousands of his supporters.

Khan led two lengthy marches last year in an attempt to persuade the government into conducting early elections; during one of them, the PTI leader was assassinated in November.

Khan accused his opponents of carrying out the attack in front of even more enraged PTI leaders and supporters, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, and others.

Despite being disqualified by the election commission and having over a hundred cases filed against him for corruption, sedition, blasphemy, and terrorism in the last year, Khan remains the most popular politician in the country, with thousands of ardent supporters willing to take to the streets on his single call.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
