After several delays, the hearing was finally resumed, and the former prime minister’s attorney, Advocate Khawaja Tariq Rahim, acknowledged that Imran Khan did not sign the bail plea.
Imran Khan was supposed to arrive in court at 2 o’clock, but Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh enquired where the PTI leader was after noticing his absence despite orders at the beginning of the hearing. Khan’s attorney informed the court that his client was late because of security concerns and was on his way.
The session was momentarily postponed when Judge Sheikh informed the lawyers that it was not his responsibility to address the security concerns. Lawyer Khawaja Tariq Rahim stated that the PTI head was late because to traffic on Mall Road when the session commenced. He continued by saying that although the police had informed them that the Mall Road would remain clear for traffic, there was actually a traffic bottleneck.
The attorney added that the PTI chairman will be attending, but that preparations needed to be made because his client did not view himself as superior to the high court. “Let me issue a show cause notice and fix a date after three weeks,” the judge remarked. At this, the counsel said Imran Khan will come tomorrow. “Not this early,” the judge responded, asking the counsel to let him write down the order as “you are making fun of law”.
The LHC judge noted, “Imran Khan is a leader, a role model and should remain so.” At this, the counsel promised to bring Imran Khan by 5pm. The judge then said, “This is the last chance for Imran Khan as the court had already granted him concession”.
