Imran Khan Orders PTI Members to Resign from Punjab Assembly Committees

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has directed all party lawmakers to resign from the standing committees of the Punjab Assembly, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail after meeting Khan, Barrister Gohar revealed that PTI currently heads 14 committees in Punjab, and the mass resignations were ordered as part of the party’s broader political plan, which also includes boycotting the upcoming by-elections. Last month, PTI members had also quit the National Assembly and Senate committees on Khan’s instructions.

Gohar said this was his first meeting with the PTI founder in several days, confirming that Khan was in good health and positive spirits. He shared that the Toshakhana Two case trial has concluded, with final arguments set for October 13 and a verdict expected soon. Gohar called it the fifth “fabricated” case against Khan, alleging political victimization.

He added that once the new Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister formally assumes office, Khan will finalise the provincial cabinet — a process already underway. Gohar urged KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi to promptly accept outgoing CM Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation to ensure a smooth transition, dismissing rumours of internal divisions within PTI.

Meanwhile, confusion remains over Gandapur’s resignation. CM House sources claim it was delivered to the Governor House last night, while Governor Kundi, currently in Islamabad, stated he has not officially received it yet and will review it for legal accuracy once it arrives.

Senator Ali Zafar, who accompanied Gohar, said Khan indicated that the existing cabinet would stay in place for now, though future changes are possible. He added that Khan warned of a strong reaction if any constitutional obstacles arise during the leadership transition.
