Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has called for an open court trial for former ISI chief Faiz Hameed, asserting that the matter should not be handled as an internal military issue.
In a recent conversation with journalists, Imran emphasized that the army chief should ensure a transparent trial for General (retd) Faiz Hameed, stating that his association with the retired general is irrelevant now. “General Faiz became insignificant after retirement. How could he benefit me in any way?” Imran questioned, rejecting any claims of ongoing contact with Hameed.

Imran argued that if General Faiz is indeed implicated in the May 9 conspiracy, then it should be addressed in an open trial rather than being treated as a national security issue. He expressed concern that a military trial would harm Pakistan’s international reputation, asserting that the case should be resolved in a civil court, given that it involves a civilian leader rather than internal military operations.
On Saturday, Imran noted that he is not intimidated by Faiz Hameed’s arrest and mentioned that his call for a judicial commission reflects his confidence.
He also criticized former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s assertion that the PTI government had destroyed the economy, referencing the Economic Survey of Pakistan to counter those claims. Imran highlighted that the previous government left a $19.5 billion deficit, which necessitated PTI’s engagement with the IMF.
