Five suspects, including the PTI president and his wife Bushra Bibi, were summoned to appear before the Lahore deputy inspector general (investigation) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The JIT had asked Civil Lines and Model Town police superintendents to ensure that all of the accused were present.

PTI leaders Hammad Azhar and Murad Saeed, as well as Imran’s nephew Hassaan Niazi, are also suspected.

The summons ordered the accused to appear in court on May 10 for an investigation into a case filed at the Sarwar Road police station under the provisions of murder, attempted murder, vandalism, arson, and terrorism.

The accused are “required to attend the office of DIG/Investigation, Lahore Abbot Road, Qila Gujjar Singh, Lahore on June 21 at 7pm to join the investigation proceedings entrusted to the JIT by the Punjab government,” according to the notifications.

Following the issuance of summons, security was increased both inside and outside the inquiry headquarters.

According to police sources, if the PTI head did not appear before JIT within the prescribed period, he would be arrested because the anti-terrorism court (ATC) had issued non-bailable arrest warrants against him in two cases.

It was stated that Imran and his wife would be unable to appear before the JIT on Wednesday; the notice was delivered to the PTI chairman’s Zaman Park mansion shortly before 8 p.m.

Imran was granted protective bail earlier in the day in three instances related to the May 9 unrest and the death of a senior Supreme Court lawyer in Quetta.

On July 25, the BHC will hear a treason case.

Meanwhile, the Balochistan High Court (BHC) summoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on a plea seeking the registration of a treason case against him on Wednesday.

In this regard, a division bench comprised of Chief Justice Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Amir Rana issued a notice to the federal government.

The court set the next hearing date for July 25 – after summer vacations.

Abdul Razzaq Shar, the slain senior lawyer, had petitioned the BHC for the establishment of a treason prosecution against the former prime minister for dissolving the assembly and violating articles six and five of the Constitution.

Amanullah Kanrani Advocate, the dead lawyer’s advocate and the former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, stood before the bench and requested that the treason case against Imran be registered.

On June 6, Shar was slain in a shooting incident on Airport Road in Quetta. Siraj Ahmed Advocate, the dead lawyer’s son, nominated the former premier in his father’s murder case.

“The notice is being served on former Prime Minister Imran Khan through the Lahore police,” a senior police officer stated, without providing any specifics. He asked for anonymity because he was not licenced to speak to the media.
