The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has urged Pakistan to enhance its public finance management by improving budget monitoring and implementing real-time tracking of development funds, sources informed ProPakistani.
During its visit, the IMF’s technical delegation recommended adopting modern budget oversight models. The Ministry of Finance briefed the delegation on the current budget release strategy and monitoring mechanisms for development projects. Discussions included a proposal to establish a dedicated unit for live tracking of project fund disbursements in the next budget.

Sources revealed that the IMF and Pakistan’s Finance Division will jointly supervise project fund releases, with a proposal under review to limit new allocations until existing funds are fully utilized. The delegation also suggested key fiscal measures for the 2025-26 budget while assessing the overall budget-making framework.
