Court Directs Inspection of Students’ Lunch Boxes for Drugs

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the interior ministry and Islamabad police to submit a detailed progress report on anti-drug measures in educational institutions from January to September.

Justice Raja Inaam Ameen Minhas issued the order while hearing a petition filed by Lucky Foundation against rising drug use in schools and colleges. The court observed that children’s lunch boxes may also need to be inspected to prevent harmful substances from being brought into schools.

According to a police report presented in court, 255 kilograms of heroin and 126 kilograms of hashish were seized in Islamabad between January and April 22, 2025. A total of 689 cases were registered, and 709 suspects arrested. Officials added that awareness campaigns had been launched in schools, but the judge stressed that campaigns alone were not enough and called for strict monitoring.

The court ruled that it was the duty of police station house officers to monitor their areas proactively rather than wait for court orders. The hearing was adjourned for two weeks.
