On Thursday, the Islamabad High Court took action against the Adiala Jail superintendent for failing to appear in court despite a summons related to providing facilities to the PTI chairman. The court granted permission for the PTI chairman’s lawyers to visit him in jail without any obstacles. The case was heard by a division bench led by Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir.
Deputy Attorney General Arshad Mahmood Kayani and Assistant Attorney General Azmat Bashir Tarar were present in court, while the Adiala Jail authorities did not respond to the court’s summons. Consequently, the court issued another show-cause notice to the jail superintendent, inquiring why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him.

Justice Aurangzeb expressed frustration over the delayed arrival of the law officers and criticized their preoccupation with celebrating Nawaz Sharif’s happiness and distributing sweets. He suggested that they seemed more focused on welcoming Nawaz Sharif than assisting the court, emphasizing that the PTI chairman is a former prime minister, and this situation is part of a recurring political cycle. Justice Aurangzeb recounted a personal example of visiting his father in jail in 1977.
Sher Afzal Marwat Advocate pointed out that they could only meet the PTI chairman on specific days when there was a case, and even then, the meetings were held in a confined space resembling a cage. He mentioned that they had a predetermined schedule and needed permission for these visits. Justice Aurangzeb requested to see the schedule.
As a result, the court adjourned the hearing, allowing the lawyers to meet the PTI chairman in jail without any hindrance.
