Ignite Aims To Train 2,000 IT Graduates In Coding And High-Demand Skills

Ignite, the training and capacity development wing of the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, has announced a new initiative to train 2,000 IT graduates. The Code4AI-North Region Program aims to provide short-term, hands-on training in high-demand coding languages to help participants gain practical, job-ready skills.

The program focuses on three key technologies: Python, JavaScript Fullstack, and Java with Angular or React. These languages were selected to meet market demand, especially in emerging areas like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and quantum computing. Training will be delivered in major northern cities, including Islamabad, Peshawar, Abbottabad, and Rawalpindi, by qualified local firms, some in partnership with reputable international organizations.

The initiative is open to graduates and final-year students in computer science, software engineering, IT, ICT engineering, mathematics, statistics, and technology management. Ignite has emphasized that the training must be intensive and practical to prepare students for real-world programming careers.

Pakistan produces more than 40,000 IT graduates annually, but only about 10 percent secure employment in the IT sector. With a population exceeding 240 million, and nearly two-thirds under 29, the country has a large pool of young talent. Active internet users number around 90 million, highlighting the potential for growth in the IT industry.

The IT sector contributes roughly 7 percent to Pakistan’s GDP and supports thousands of professionals in sectors including banking, healthcare, telecommunications, and education. According to the State Bank of Pakistan, IT exports reached $2.1 billion in 2020–21 and $2.616 billion in 2022, with the government targeting $5 billion in exports for fiscal year 2023.
