Iddat marriage case Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi acquitted, release orders issued

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have been acquitted by an Islamabad court in the iddat nikah case. The Additional Sessions Judge, Afzal Majoka, overturned the previous trial court’s decision, which had sentenced the couple to seven years in jail and fined them Rs. 500,000 each. The release orders for both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have also been issued.

The court’s written judgment highlighted that the main complainant, Khawar Maneka, failed to substantiate his allegations that the marriage took place during Bushra Bibi’s iddat period following her divorce. The judgment pointed out inconsistencies in Maneka’s claims, including his delayed decision to file a complaint six years after the alleged incident.

During the earlier proceedings, Maneka’s lawyer emphasized the need for witness testimony, while Imran Khan’s lawyer, Salman Akram Raja, argued that Khan was unaware of the iddat period and that the responsibility should not solely fall on Bushra Bibi.

The court concluded that Maneka’s allegations were not convincingly proven, leading to the acquittal and release of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, provided they are not required in any other cases.
