The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) remain locked in a standoff over the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, set to be hosted in Pakistan. The BCCI has refused to send the Indian team to Pakistan due to security concerns, causing significant tension between the two cricket boards.
The PCB has firmly stated that it will not back down from hosting the event in Pakistan. In response, the PCB has proposed a hybrid model, wherein if India refuses to play in Pakistan, then Pakistan will also refrain from participating in any ICC events held in India. This has increased pressure on the International Cricket Council (ICC), with reports suggesting that the BCCI is worried about the financial impact of losing the highly anticipated India-Pakistan matches.

Despite the ongoing discussions, the PCB has not yet received any official response from either the BCCI or the ICC. Meanwhile, there have been media reports in India speculating that the tournament may shift from the traditional One-Day International (ODI) format to the more popular T20 format, reflecting the growing viewership trends favoring T20 cricket.
As of now, no final decision has been made regarding the venue or the potential format change. The tournament is scheduled for February and March 2025, marking Pakistan’s first time hosting the Champions Trophy since its inception, but negotiations between the two boards continue.
