Huawei has unveiled the new Mate 70 Pro Premium Edition, set to launch in China on March 5. Despite the “Premium” label, this variant features an underclocked version of the Kirin 9020 chipset, resulting in performance scores comparable to mid-range smartphones, but it comes with a lower price than the standard Mate 70 Pro.
Design and Display:
The Premium Edition retains a 6.9-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth visuals, and keeps the same sleek, curved-edge design as the standard model. It is available in four color options: Green, Purple, White, and Black.

Internals and Software:
While the regular Mate 70 Pro is powered by the Kirin 9020 chipset, the Premium Edition uses an underclocked version of the same processor—achieving a Geekbench single-core score of 1,450 and a multi-core score of 3,793. The device still comes with 12GB of RAM to ensure robust multitasking and runs on Huawei’s HarmonyOS, providing a smooth user experience without Google services.
Camera:
The camera setup remains unchanged, featuring a 50MP primary sensor, a 40MP ultra-wide lens, and a 48MP macro telephoto camera, ensuring high-quality photography with excellent zoom and macro capabilities.
Battery and Pricing:
The phone is equipped with a 5,500mAh battery that supports 100W wired and 80W wireless fast charging. The pricing for the Premium Edition is lower than that of the standard model, with the 256GB variant priced at CNY 6,199 ($850), the 512GB variant at CNY 6,699 ($920), and the 1TB variant at CNY 7,699 ($1,050).
In summary, although the Mate 70 Pro Premium Edition uses an underclocked chipset, it maintains the premium design, camera system, and fast-charging capabilities of its counterpart while offering a more competitive price. However, this model is unlikely to be released outside of China.
