The spotlight on the iPhone 16 is about to fade as HUAWEI unveils its groundbreaking Mate XT, the world’s first tri-folding smartphone, at an event in China.
The HUAWEI Mate XT features two hinges, creating a triple-screen foldable device. Unlike clamshell foldables, it opens like a book, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold, though its design resembles a Z more than the Z series.

When folded, the Mate XT is 12.8mm thick. Despite its three screens, its thickness is comparable to that of current two-screen foldables.
Unfolded, the Mate XT reveals a massive 10.2-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2232 x 3184, a 16:11 aspect ratio, and LTPO features. The device can also be adjusted to a 7.9-inch mode thanks to its dual hinges.
HUAWEI has not disclosed the specific processor for the Mate XT, but it is expected to feature at least the Kirin 9010 5G chip due to its satellite connectivity capabilities. The smartphone will also include a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 12-megapixel periscope zoom lens.
Despite its slim profile, the Mate XT is equipped with a substantial 5600mAh battery that supports 66W fast charging.
Currently, the Mate XT is only available in China. Pricing starts at CNY 19,999 (approximately USD 2,809) for the 16GB/256GB model and goes up to CNY 23,999 (around USD 3,370) for the 16GB/1TB version.
