Facebook has rolled out a set of new AI-powered features aimed at helping users express themselves in more creative and playful ways. Announced on Tuesday, the updates include animated profile pictures, AI-driven photo restyling tools for Stories and Memories, and animated backgrounds for text posts. These tools are designed to enhance engagement and allow users to personalize their content like never before.
One of the highlights is animated profile pictures, which bring static images to life with motion effects. Users can make subjects appear to wave, form a heart, or wear a virtual party hat. For optimal results, Facebook recommends using a clear photo of a single person facing the camera. Users can upload a new photo or select one already shared on the platform. Meta has promised that additional animation effects will be added throughout the year, giving users even more ways to customize their profiles.
Another major update is the Restyle tool for Stories and Memories. Stories are short-lived photo or video posts, while Memories resurface content shared on the same date in previous years. With Restyle, users can upload a photo and either enter a text prompt or select from preset themes such as anime, illustrated, glowy, or ethereal. The tool also allows adjustment of lighting, color, and mood, as well as background replacement with scenes like beaches or cityscapes. This feature gives users more control over how their memories and stories are presented.
Facebook is also enhancing text posts with animated backgrounds. By tapping a new rainbow “A” icon, users can choose from static or animated backgrounds, including effects like falling leaves or rolling ocean waves. Meta plans to introduce seasonal options in the future, allowing posts to reflect holidays or special occasions.
These updates demonstrate Facebook’s continued focus on using AI to improve user engagement and make the platform more interactive. By offering tools for animation, photo transformation, and dynamic backgrounds, Meta aims to give users more ways to showcase their personalities and make everyday posts stand out.
