The Passport Department has released official figures showing that a total of 5,572,013 passports were issued across Pakistan in 2025, marking the highest annual issuance recorded in several years.
According to the department, the country witnessed an unprecedented surge in passport applications last year, resulting in more than 5.57 million passports being issued nationwide. Officials described this as a record-breaking achievement, noting that such a high number of passports issued within a single year had not been seen for a long time.
The data shows that the majority of passports were issued under the normal category. During 2025, a total of 3,275,263 passports were processed and delivered through standard applications. In addition, 1,839,487 passports were issued under the urgent category, reflecting a growing demand for faster processing among applicants.
The department also reported that 276,789 passports were issued under the fast-track category, which allows citizens to receive their travel documents in the shortest possible time. Officials said the rising use of urgent and fast-track services highlights the increasing need for timely travel documentation, particularly for overseas employment, education, and business purposes.
One of the key factors behind the record number of issued passports was the decision to keep passport offices open around the clock in several major cities. The Passport Department said 24-hour operations significantly reduced backlogs, eased pressure on staff, and provided greater convenience to citizens.

Officials added that extended working hours, along with improved management and processing systems, played an important role in meeting public demand efficiently. The department expressed confidence that these measures would continue to help streamline passport issuance and improve services for citizens in the future.
