The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has released a detailed list of fake universities and illegal campuses across Pakistan. The aim is to protect students from academic fraud and misleading institutions.
The announcement highlights serious concerns about unregistered institutes operating in different regions. While this update is unrelated to any Flood Warning, it carries similar urgency for students and parents. It stresses the need for awareness and timely action.
According to HEC, 95 institutions in Punjab have been declared fake or unregistered. In Sindh, the number stands at 34. Meanwhile, Azad Jammu and Kashmir has 3 such campuses. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, authorities identified 11 illegal institutions. Two more are operating without approval under the federal capital.
Several cities are heavily affected. These include Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad. Many institutes in these areas are offering degrees without legal status.
HEC has made it clear that degrees from these institutions are not valid. They will not be accepted for government jobs or higher education. This warning is as critical as a Flood Warning for students planning their future.
The commission also noted that some fake universities use attractive or foreign-sounding names. This tactic confuses students and makes the institutes appear legitimate. As a result, many students fall victim to such schemes.
Parents and students are advised to verify university status before applying. HEC recommends checking official listings and approved university directories. This simple step can prevent major losses.
Authorities have also been urged to take strict action against these illegal campuses. Public awareness is key to reducing academic fraud. Reporting suspicious institutes can help authorities respond quickly.
Although different from a natural disaster, this situation requires equal attention. Just like a Flood Warning alerts people to danger, this notice warns students about educational risks.

HEC continues to emphasize safe and informed decision-making. Students should only enroll in recognized universities. This ensures their degrees remain valid and useful for future opportunities.
