From September 7 to 10, Sindh is likely to experience intermittent heavy rainfall, raising concerns of urban flooding in Karachi and other low-lying areas.
The Meteorological Department reported that a low-pressure system over Madhya Pradesh, India, is expected to move toward Sindh’s border with Rajasthan by September 6. This system is predicted to bring strong monsoon winds to eastern Sindh and Punjab starting September 6.
Heavy rain is forecasted between September 7 and 10 in multiple districts, including Tharparkar (Mithi, Islamkot, Nagarparkar, Chachro, Diplo), Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Jamshoro, Dadu, Kashmore, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Ghotki, and Karachi.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon stated that while flooding risks were anticipated, actual floodwater inflows have been lower than expected so far.
The Meteorological Department has cautioned residents about potential flooding in Karachi’s low-lying areas, as well as in Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tharparkar, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, and Hyderabad due to heavy rainfall.
