Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Expected in Parts of Pakistan

The National Emergencies Operations Centre of the National Disaster Management Authority has issued a nationwide weather warning predicting thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and hailstorms in multiple regions during the next 12 to 24 hours. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious as unstable weather conditions may disrupt travel and daily activities in several cities.

According to the NDMA, the current weather system matches forecasts issued months earlier for the April to June period. The authority stated that advance alerts had already been circulated to provincial administrations and disaster management departments to help prepare for severe weather conditions expected during the ongoing season.

Punjab is likely to witness widespread rainfall accompanied by strong winds and lightning. Cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Murree, Sialkot, and Multan are expected to receive moderate to heavy rain. Meteorologists have also warned of possible hailstorms in isolated areas, which could damage crops, vehicles, and weak infrastructure.

In northern regions, thunderstorms with rainfall are forecast for parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. Areas including Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, and Kotli may experience intense weather activity over the coming hours.

Several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Peshawar, Mardan, and Dera Ismail Khan are also expected to receive rain and hail in some areas. Officials warned that severe weather may temporarily affect transportation and power supply in vulnerable regions.

The NDMA further cautioned that increasing temperatures could accelerate glacier and snow melting in northern areas, raising the risk of flash floods, landslides, and glacial lake outburst floods. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, remain away from glacial lakes and steep slopes, and follow official safety instructions during storms and heavy rainfall.
