Heatwave Alert Issued by Pakistan Meteorological Department
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning about an intense heatwave affecting various regions of the country, particularly Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan.
Rising Temperatures:
- Starting today, these regions are expected to experience daytime temperatures that will be 6 to 8 degrees Celsius higher than normal.
- From April 18 onwards, Islamabad, central and upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are also predicted to see a 4 to 6 degrees Celsius rise in temperatures.
Gusty Winds Expected:
In addition to the soaring temperatures, gusty winds are likely, which will worsen the already intense heat conditions.

Recent Temperature Records:
- Yesterday, Nawabshah, Hyderabad, and Dadu recorded the highest temperatures, reaching 43°C.
- Karachi, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ismail Khan followed closely with temperatures of 39°C and 37°C, respectively.
- Lahore and Peshawar recorded 35°C, while Islamabad and Quetta stood at 33°C.
Precautionary Measures:
Experts have urged residents in the affected areas to take preventive measures to avoid heat-related illnesses, including:
- Staying hydrated
- Avoiding prolonged sun exposure, especially during peak hours
The heatwave is expected to persist throughout the week, with particularly high temperatures in the areas most affected. The PMD has advised the general public to stay updated on the changing weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions.
