Heatwave Conditions Persist Across Pakistan, Summer Vacations Announced in Punjab

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave forecast for several parts of the country, including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan. Temperatures in these regions are expected to remain as much as 7°C above the seasonal average, with cities like Lahore, Peshawar, Sargodha, and Multan likely to experience temperatures reaching or exceeding 40°C.

In the southern regions, particularly Sukkur, Nawabshah, Mithi, Sibi, and Turbat, the heat is expected to be even more intense, with temperatures soaring to 45°C or higher. Nawabshah set a record on Sunday, registering the highest temperature in the country at 48°C.

Karachi will also experience the heat, with maximum temperatures ranging between 36°C and 38°C. The city will see high humidity levels of 76 percent, and sea breezes will provide some relief, blowing at speeds of 9 kilometers per hour.

In response to the rising temperatures, the Punjab Education Department has announced that summer vacations will begin earlier than usual. Schools in the province will start their summer holidays from June 1, 2025, as the department takes measures to protect students and staff from the extreme heat conditions.
