Heatwave Forecasted for Karachi as Temperatures Surge Above Normal
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning for a fresh heatwave in Karachi starting Sunday, with temperatures expected to rise to 40°C, which is 4 to 6 degrees above the city’s average for this time of year.
Cause of the Heatwave
According to a senior meteorologist, the increase in temperatures is linked to a change in the atmospheric pressure system over Sindh. The high-pressure area over the upper and central parts of Sindh is moving away, causing the sea breeze to cease from Sunday onward, which will intensify the heat in Karachi.

Impact on Karachi and Sindh
The heatwave will particularly affect Karachi beginning Sunday, but the movement of the weather system towards southern Sindh is expected to bring relief to other parts of the province starting Saturday.
Temperature Forecast and Advisory
On Friday, Karachi recorded a maximum temperature of 34.3°C, and the forecast for Saturday suggests temperatures ranging between 36°C and 38°C, with hot and humid conditions.
The PMD has advised citizens, especially children, the elderly, and women, to limit exposure to the sun, stay hydrated, and take appropriate precautions during the heatwave.
Meanwhile, cities in the interior of Sindh, such as Dadu and Shaheed Benazirabad, have been sweltering under extreme heat, with temperatures reaching a scorching 46.5°C. Other cities like Padidan (46°C), Larkana (45.6°C), and Mohenjo Daro (45.5°C) have also reported similarly high temperatures, while areas like Sukkur, Rohri, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Badin are experiencing intense heat as well.
The public is urged to stay updated on weather advisories and take necessary actions to protect themselves during this intense heat period.
