Hamas on Sunday strongly rejected Israel’s plan to relocate residents from Gaza City, calling it a “new wave of genocide and displacement” targeting hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.
The group condemned Israel’s preparation of tents and shelter facilities in southern Gaza, describing it as a “blatant deception” meant to disguise what it called an impending crime by occupation forces. The Israeli military has claimed the relocation plan aims to move civilians from combat zones for their safety.
Earlier, Israel had announced intentions to launch a new offensive to capture northern Gaza City, the enclave’s largest urban hub, sparking international concern over the humanitarian crisis in the territory of 2.2 million people.
According to Gaza’s health ministry, more than 61,000 Palestinians have been killed since Israel’s assault began, with widespread destruction, mass displacement, and growing hunger devastating the strip.
Meanwhile, thousands of Israelis staged a nationwide strike in solidarity with families of hostages held in Gaza. Protesters blocked roads, waved Israeli flags, and displayed photos of captives, urging Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reach a deal with Hamas for their release. Families of hostages emphasized the need to prioritize saving lives above all else.
