Hamas Claims Netanyahu’s Speech Indicates Opposition to Ceasefire Deal

Hamas senior official Sami Abu Zuhri criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent speech to the US Congress, accusing him of obstructing a ceasefire agreement and spreading falsehoods to cover up alleged war crimes against Gaza. Netanyahu’s speech emphasized the need for a security alliance in the Middle East to counter Iran and stated that Israel does not seek to resettle Gaza, but rather hopes it will be governed by Palestinians who do not aim to destroy Israel.

The spokesperson for the Palestinian president, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, reiterated that the solution to achieving security and stability is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The Gaza health ministry reports that over 39,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s military offensive on Gaza since October 7.
