Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh has been assassinated in Iran

Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas’ political bureau, was killed in an attack on his residence in Tehran on Wednesday. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the death, stating that Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed in the strike. Hamas has acknowledged the attack and mourned Haniyeh, describing the incident as a “treacherous Zionist raid.”

Haniyeh was in Tehran for the inauguration of Iranian president-elect Masoud Pezeshkian. His death is likely to further escalate regional tensions.
