Pakistani cricketer Haider Ali has been acquitted in a rape case after UK police dropped charges due to insufficient evidence. The allegation was made last month by a British-Pakistani woman.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the case has been closed, allowing Haider to leave the UK freely. He had been arrested on August 4 after the complaint was filed, accusing him of rape at a Manchester hotel. During questioning, Haider denied the accusation, stating he knew the complainant personally and was shocked by the claim.
According to reports, he has already retrieved his passport from the police and is now permitted to travel.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had earlier suspended Haider while the investigation was ongoing. In a statement, the PCB emphasized that it provided Haider with legal support to safeguard his rights during the proceedings, while also respecting UK legal procedures.
The board added that it fully acknowledged the importance of allowing the investigation to conclude before any further action. With the case now dismissed, Haider Ali has been cleared of the charges.
