At least three people were killed and several others injured when unknown gunmen opened fire on a passenger coach en route from Karachi to Quetta near Balochistan’s Kalat district.
The incident took place along the Quetta-Karachi highway, where the coach came under sudden attack. Police officials confirmed that three passengers died instantly, while seven others were wounded in the shooting.
Rescue teams and law enforcement arrived at the site shortly after the assault. The injured individuals were rushed to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for treatment, and the bodies of the deceased were taken for legal procedures.
Security forces have cordoned off the area, collected forensic evidence, and launched an investigation to trace those responsible. A significant police and paramilitary presence was noted in the aftermath to secure the region and reassure the public.
The Balochistan government strongly condemned the brutal act, promising swift justice. Officials called the attack “barbaric and inhumane,” emphasizing that targeting innocent, unarmed civilians reflects the extreme cruelty of such groups. A government spokesperson stated, “These terrorists are enemies of peace and must be dealt with firmly.”
This tragic incident has once again highlighted the security challenges in the province and raised concerns over the safety of public transport on intercity routes.
