The federal government has submitted a petition to NEPRA seeking a reduction in electricity tariffs.

The proposed relief, valid from April to June, includes an increased subsidy. NEPRA will review the request in a hearing on April 4.

If approved, DISCOs and K-Electric consumers—excluding lifeline users—will see a Rs1.71 per unit tariff cut. Earlier, the IMF permitted Pakistan to lower electricity rates by Re1 per unit, funded by a levy on gas-powered captive plants.
