PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui expressed optimism regarding the ongoing negotiations between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the government. Speaking on Nadeem Malik Live on Samaa TV, Siddiqui highlighted that the latest session represented significant progress, stating, “Today was a very good day in the history of Pakistan.”
He stressed the transparency of the talks, clarifying that the negotiations are being conducted with an open heart. “We are not pretending but negotiating with an open heart,” Siddiqui remarked, adding that the PML-N has not set any demands on PTI but has instead encouraged them to present their demands in writing.
Siddiqui noted that PTI’s key demands include the formation of a commission to investigate incidents from May 9 and November 26, along with the release of Imran Khan. He assured that these demands would be carefully evaluated. “The release of the PTI founder will be discussed in the talks,” he said, further stating that the government would consider the list of cases presented by PTI and reach a logical conclusion. He emphasized that no negative opinions have been expressed by the government regarding PTI’s stance.

The senator dismissed any suggestions of interference by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif or the establishment in the negotiations. He also confirmed that the PML-N has not asked PTI to stop its public speeches or social media campaigns during the talks. “I have no connection with the establishment regarding the negotiations,” Siddiqui clarified, stressing the importance of mutual understanding in the dialogue. “Fighting is the easy way; understanding is needed in negotiations,” he said. He concluded with cautious optimism, acknowledging that while there is much work to be done, good wishes can be expressed for the negotiations.
PTI leader Salman Akram Raja also reiterated his party’s commitment to the negotiations despite logistical challenges and unresolved issues. Raja, who could not attend the recent session due to prior commitments, clarified that PTI had suggested holding talks on a different date. He expressed disappointment that the talks were scheduled earlier than expected, stating, “We had said that the talks should be held tomorrow instead of today.”
Raja confirmed that PTI’s key focus remains on the release of political prisoners, including Imran Khan, and called for bail for all political prisoners. He highlighted that PTI is also opposed to the establishment of military courts, which he claims are “not acceptable to the world.” Raja criticized the judicial system and called for adherence to the Constitution and rule of law. He also expressed concern about the lack of political space, stressing, “Political space must be restored.”
In discussing the economic aspect, Raja reiterated PTI’s stance on halting remittances, stating, “There is no question of suspending the call to stop remittances.” Looking ahead, he emphasized the importance of timely and meaningful dialogue, noting, “The next session should have been held before January 2.”
