Govt Development Projects to Cost Tenfold Over Estimates

The Planning Commission has disclosed that completing 1,071 development projects nationwide will cost over Rs. 13,815 billion, almost ten times the budget allocated under the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP).

Documents obtained by ProPakistani indicate an additional Rs. 8,935 billion is required, with completion expected by 2035, assuming a consistent annual budget of Rs. 1,000 billion is allocated.

So far, Rs. 375 billion has been spent on the projects, with Rs. 1,173 billion needed for projects in collaboration with provincial governments.

Balochistan has 200 projects costing Rs. 1,048 billion, Punjab requires Rs. 707 billion for 172 projects, Sindh needs Rs. 613 billion for 117 projects, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa requires Rs. 642 billion for 101 projects. Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan need Rs. 44 billion and Rs. 443 billion, respectively, for their development plans.

In the current fiscal year, Sindh is set to receive Rs. 171 billion, Balochistan Rs. 129 billion, Punjab Rs. 118 billion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rs. 52 billion, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Rs. 44 billion, Gilgit-Baltistan Rs. 65 billion, and Rs. 74 billion has been allocated for merged districts.
