Govt. Declares Nov 9 Public Holiday For Iqbal Day

The interim government in Islamabad has officially declared November 9 as a public holiday in honor of Iqbal Day. The Cabinet Division has issued a notification stating that Thursday, November 9, will be a nationwide public holiday.

On this day, the 146th birth anniversary of Dr. Allama Mohammad Iqbal, the entire country observes “Iqbal Day.” Dr. Iqbal played a pivotal role in motivating millions of Muslims in the subcontinent to aspire to have an independent homeland where they could practice Islam freely.

Special prayers for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan will mark the beginning of the day in mosques. Dr. Iqbal, a renowned poet and philosopher, was born in Sialkot on November 9, 1877. He is recognized for his poetry and his influential advocacy for the creation of a separate homeland for Muslims.

A changing of the guard ceremony will also take place at his mausoleum in Lahore.
