Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, announced that the government has secured the majority needed to pass the constitutional amendment package. He emphasized that despite having the required numbers, the government is focused on building a consensus through ongoing discussions with JUI-F chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
Tarar highlighted that consulting with all political parties is both a democratic responsibility and a government priority. He reiterated that political consensus is being pursued to strengthen the democratic process, even though the government already holds the majority to pass the amendment independently.

He further stated that efforts are underway to complete the consultation process by the end of the day. In response to a question, Tarar affirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards individuals attempting to incite chaos and unrest, adding that no leniency would be given to those spreading false information, especially regarding the recent molestation case.
Meanwhile, the start of the Senate and National Assembly sessions has been delayed twice as the government works to secure Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s support. The 26th amendment includes proposals to form a constitutional bench, redefine parliament’s role in appointing the Chief Justice of Pakistan, limit the Chief Justice’s tenure to three years, and restructure the Supreme Judicial Council.
