Govt Assures Petrol, Diesel Supply Remains at Comfortable Levels

The federal government has assured citizens that supplies of petrol and diesel remain stable and sufficient despite ongoing uncertainty in global and regional oil markets.

This assurance came during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on monitoring petroleum prices, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. The committee reviewed fuel stock levels, supply chains, and upcoming import plans to ensure continuity.

Officials informed the meeting that diesel reserves currently provide around 23 to 24 days of coverage, while petrol stocks are at a comfortable level. Meanwhile, crude oil reserves are sufficient for approximately 11 days, with additional shipments already in transit and more expected soon to support refinery operations through April.

The Petroleum Division briefed the committee that import strategies for April are being actively managed. Large volumes have already been secured through both commercial agreements and government-to-government deals. Refineries are operating efficiently, with efforts focused on maximizing output to meet domestic demand.

The committee also reviewed fluctuations in international oil prices, noting recent increases due to regional developments. Members discussed procurement strategies under existing agreements to maintain supply security while ensuring cost efficiency.

Logistical aspects such as shipping, insurance, and fuel distribution were also examined. Authorities were directed to ensure transparency, avoid disruptions, and closely monitor supply chains to prevent hoarding or speculative practices.

In addition, discussions covered digital tracking of petroleum supplies, pricing strategies, and plans to develop strategic fuel reserves as directed by the prime minister.

Finance Minister Aurangzeb emphasized that maintaining uninterrupted fuel availability across the country remains a top priority, even amid challenging global conditions. The meeting was attended by key federal ministers and senior officials from relevant departments and regulatory bodies.
