Govt Appoints Syed Khurram Ali as New NCCIA Chief

The federal government has appointed Syed Khurram Ali, a Grade-21 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan, as the new Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

The decision comes after reports of alleged corruption and misconduct involving senior officials of the agency. The move reflects the government’s growing resolve to ensure transparency and accountability in key institutions handling sensitive digital investigations.

According to an official notification, Syed Khurram Ali will immediately take charge as the new NCCIA chief. His appointment follows increasing concerns over rising cybercrime cases across the country and the need for a stronger institutional response.

The NCCIA has been at the center of several high-profile investigations involving data theft, online fraud, and digital security breaches. The agency’s credibility was questioned recently due to reports of internal irregularities, prompting swift administrative changes.

In a separate development that demonstrates Pakistan’s focus on international cooperation and goodwill, the government recently granted 2,100 visas to Indian Sikh pilgrims for Baba Guru Nanak’s 556th birth anniversary celebrations. Back at home, officials believe that Syed Khurram Ali’s leadership will help restore discipline and integrity within the NCCIA. Known for his extensive background in policing and investigation, he has previously served in multiple administrative and field roles that emphasize operational efficiency and professionalism.

With his appointment, the Interior Ministry aims to rebuild public trust in the cybercrime agency and introduce stricter internal oversight. The NCCIA is also expected to enhance coordination with international cyber units to tackle digital threats, online scams, and hacking attempts more effectively.

The government’s decisive step reflects a commitment to ensuring accountability, modernizing cybersecurity systems, and protecting citizens in Pakistan’s fast-evolving digital landscape.
