Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, stated on Thursday that the government has no objections if the court grants Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s release.
Addressing journalists, Sanaullah clarified that Imran Khan remains behind bars due to convictions in multiple cases. The former prime minister has been imprisoned since August 2023, facing several charges, including corruption and terrorism, after being ousted through a no-confidence motion in April 2022.

His remarks come as PTI gears up for a nationwide protest campaign following Eidul Fitr, demanding the return of what it calls a “stolen mandate,” constitutional adherence, and the release of political prisoners.
Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman also announced protests against the federal government’s policies after Eid, aligning with PTI’s movement.
Commenting on the recent in-camera session of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, the former interior minister mentioned that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur was urged to strengthen police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) capabilities in response to rising terrorism threats.
The high-level meeting, convened by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recommendation, focused on enhancing security, particularly in KP and Balochistan.
While PTI opposition leader Omar Ayub and other party members boycotted the session, the KP chief minister participated as his province’s representative.
