The government has announced plans to enhance border security by installing biometric machines at all airports across the country. The Ministry of Interior has instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take immediate action on the installation of these machines. This initiative mandates biometric verification for international travelers, making it significantly more difficult for fugitives and wanted criminals to travel domestically or internationally. The biometric machines will be set up at international immigration counters in airports to ensure effective passenger verification.
On Tuesday, the provincial administration held a meeting to evaluate and bolster security measures aimed at protecting Chinese nationals working on various projects within the province. Sindh Interior Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar chaired the meeting, which included law enforcement and intelligence officials. He emphasized the importance of coordinating security for both CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor) and non-CPEC affiliated Chinese citizens. Lanjar expressed concerns about the safety of Chinese nationals working with local businesses and stressed that sponsors must be made aware of their responsibilities regarding the arrival and security of foreigners in Sindh.
He highlighted the need for enhanced overall security for foreign workers, particularly those associated with CPEC and non-CPEC projects, with the formal support of the Sindh government. The fatal explosion outside Karachi airport that killed the two engineers, who were involved in the energy sector, occurred just days before the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Islamabad, which was attended by several high-profile foreign dignitaries.
